Penguin Finger Puppet Craft

This extremely easy penguin finger puppet craft is the perfect way to welcome in the winter season! I secretly always love the time of year where we transition away from Christmas-themed things to just generic winter-themed stuff, and penguins top my list of favorites (as you can see here and here).
This is a free printable template, and it comes in two types. The one in the photo here is a coloring page so that kids can create to their hearts’ desire! The second comes with the colors already intact — the penguins sport three different colored hats and scarves (red, blue, and green). This might be perfect if you need to save on time, or if you just want to work cutting skills with the kiddos!
What do I need to make a Penguin Paper Craft Puppet?
Printable Template: You can start by printing off the free penguin pattern below. As mentioned before, there are two options — one that’s a coloring page, and one with the colors already done for you. I recommend printing these on cardstock as it’s sturdier, but regular computer paper also works!

Pre-colored Penguin Finger Puppets Template
Colors: Crayons, colored pencils, markers, and more! I used colored pencils in my example penguin puppets, but there’s no reason you can’t get exciting with this. You could also use decorative things, like glitter, sequins, or pompoms to dress the penguin pattern up.
Scissors: You’ll need these to cut out the outside of the penguin, and, if you choose, the finger holes.
X-Acto Knife (optional): I prefer using an X-Acto knife to cut the finger holes in finger puppets. The knife gives me more control and a cleaner edge. Also, I don’t have to bend the puppet to get that first snip. However, if this isn’t for you, a pair of scissor will do the job!
How do I make a Penguin Finger Puppet Craft?
You’ll start by printing the template (found above in the materials section). If you’re using the coloring template, then let your kiddo color away.
When they’re done, you can either help them or have them cut around the outside of the penguin.
Next, you’ll either use the scissors or an X-Acto knife to cut out the two finger holes at the bottom.
To play with your puppet, insert a finger into each of the holes at the bottom. These become the penguin’s feet, and you can make your new little friend waddle all over!
