How to Make Pony Bead Bracelets (Printable Patterns!)

This step-by-step tutorial makes pony bead bracelets so easy! Use the printable patterns to create two different fun designs.

Pony Bead Bracelets

Pony bead bracelets are officially fun again—and they’re as easy as ever to make. Whether you go with the classic chunky beads or the minis (my favorite), all you need are a few supplies and a simple pattern to create something colorful and eye-catching.

Two designs always steal the show: the bold chevron and the playful flower (or sunburst, if you like). I’ve got free printable patterns for both, so you can dive right in. Quick and cheap, these bracelets are perfect for trading, gifting, or just making for fun!

Instructions

First bead
1. Start by sliding the first pony bead into the center of the string.
Row 2, step 1
2. The next row starts by sliding two beads onto one end of the string. Keep the beads near the end of the string.
Row 2, step 2
3. Take the other end of the string and thread it through the beads from the other side. You can think of the string as making an X inside the beads.
Continue with the pattern
4. Pull both ends of the string until the second row lays against the first bead. You can play with the tension of the string, loosening and tightening, to get the row to lay flat.
Continue with the pattern
5. Every other row is done exactly the same way! Just follow the design pattern to see which colors are in each row. Make sure you’re measuring your bracelet on your wrist every few rows so that you know when you’ve beaded enough.

6. Once your bracelet is long enough, you can add the last two rows (the 2 bead and 1 bead rows).
Connecting the bracelet, step 1
7. Take one end of the string and pass it through the very first bead from row 1. Pass the other end of the string through the same bead from the other side.
Connecting the bracelet step 2
Pull the strings taught so that your bracelet is now circular. Then, use a double square knot to tie your bracelet off (here’s a video if you need help!). Cut off any extra ribbon or cord.
