In my quest to lose the baby weight and get back into shape, I’ve been looking for healthy breakfasts. Because of the way my mornings usually go, I tend to skip breakfast, so not only does something need to be healthy, it needs to be fast or I’ll decide it’s not worth it. Add the fact that I don’t want to be hungry five minutes later, and you’ve knocked out most of the healthy breakfasts in my repertoire.
Over night oats are perfect, though. They’re fast, nutritious, and filling. You can make several at a time, as they will keep in the fridge for about a week.
I found a tutorial for the method on The Yummy Life, then started playing around with flavors. The recipe below is the base, and then I’ve given some flavor suggestions underneath.
Strawberry Peach – oatmeal, milk, crushed almonds, peach yogurt, sliced strawberries
Vanilla Raspberry – oatmeal, milk, chia seeds, vanilla yogurt, raspberries
Cherry Orchard – oatmeal, milk, flax seed, cherry yogurt, mixed fruit cup with cherries
Peach Mango – oatmeal, milk, crushed almonds, peach yogurt, mango fruit cup
Apple Cinnamon – oatmeal, milk, chia seeds, applesauce cup, sliced apples, 1/4 tsp cinnamon
