How to Make Cat Pencil Toppers
Materials

- Free Printable Cat Template
- Fun Foam in a variety of colors (scraps work great!)
- Scissors
- Glue (hot glue or tacky glue recommended)
- Googly Eyes
- Pencil
Directions
1. Cut Out the Cat
Start by printing and cutting out the cat body template. Fold the body in half, then make two small slits (about ½ inch) near the center. This is where the pencil will slide through—no need to cut too much!

Use colorful foam scraps to cut out your cat’s features. At a minimum, you’ll want two ears and a nose, but kids can let their imaginations run wild. Try adding paws, tails, whiskers, bow ties, stripes, or even tiny hats!

2. Decorate and Glue
Glue all of your pieces onto the foam cat body. Just be sure to leave the center slit area clear so the pencil can fit later.

Glue Tip: Regular glue or glue sticks work fine, but they’ll need time to dry. For faster results and better hold, hot glue is a great option. Just make sure you’ve got adult supervision!
Craft Tips & Ideas:
- Use patterned foam or glitter foam for extra flair.
- Use black foam to make some black cats for a Halloween cat craft.
- Turn this into a classroom activity by offering a variety of cat colors and accessories. Add a super simple song about cats to round it off!
- Make a whole litter of adorable kitties with different expressions or holiday themes!
- Work this craft into a pet theme unit!
- Try other craft material! This can be turned into paper crafts by just subbing construction paper for foam. The kitties aren’t as durable, but they will be very cute!
