Kool-Aid Lollipops

Kool-Aid Lollipops| Homan at Home

My son will do anything for a Dum-Dum. I really mean it. He even loves going to the doctor, because there’s a lollipop in it for him afterwards. The second the shots are done, he’s zeroed in on the lollipop jar, and heaven help the poor nurse who doesn’t offer it to him fast enough!

Which is why we tried our hand at making lollipops this last week. We followed the recipe from my old Betty Crocker cookbook, but I didn’t have any flavorings on hand, so we used what we had: Kool-Aid. It was a hit. The lollipops have a strong flavor, and gorgeous color from the Kool-Aid and I even enjoyed them.

When we did them again this time, we used three packets to get a bunch of fun colors. The blue ones use Blue Lemonade, we used Tropical Fruit for the red (which is stain-a-licious. Not sure I recommend that one…), and Lemonade for the yellow.

We also don’t own a lollipop mold, so we just poured the sugar mixture right onto a greased piece of foil. I think it’s kind of fun – each lollipop is different, and my son loves watching the mixture decide on a shape.

  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1/2 cup water
  3. 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  4. 1 pkg Kool-Aid
  1. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup.
  2. On medium heat and stirring continuously, bring the sugar mixture to a boil.
  3. Allow mixture to boil WITHOUT stirring until the temperature reaches 280° I use a standard kitchen thermometer to measure this.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in Kool-Aid packet.
  5. Pour mixture onto greased foil. Push a lollipop stick into the center.
  6. Allow to cool and harden.

I love this idea! Especially since i don’t have to go buy a mold to do it 😂 can’t wait to try this with the kids this afternoon

Diane Homan

I hope you and your kids love it as much as we do!

So I tried this recipe, and followed everything exactly, and poured in my flavor packets and poured the mixture into molds, and they never completely hardened, they just turned to this gooey but not sticky consistency. Please help !

With candy, one possibility is the humidity messing with your hard crack point. Next time, you might try checking whether you’ve reached hard crack before pouring into the mold. Here’s a great tutorial on that: https://www.thespruceeats.com/making-candy-without-a-candy-thermometer-520309. Good luck!
