Doctored Cake Mix and Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Ingredients

Doctored Cake Mix Cake

  • 15.25 oz pkg cake mix
  • 3.4 oz pkg pudding mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup melted butter

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 tsps vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp water or milk

Instructions

Doctored Cake Mix Cake

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients for the cake. Mix until smooth, scraping down the sides to make sure that all ingredients are combined.
  • Grease and flour a 9 inch round cake pan. Pour the cake mix into the cake pan and use spatula to smooth.
  • Bake cake at 350° for 45-50 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove cake from pan, then allow to cool completely before cutting and decorating.

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat vanilla extract, salt, butter, and shortening until smooth.
  • Add powdered sugar one cup at a time while beating the frosting on low until all 8 cups are full incorporated.
  • If your buttercream is too stiff, add water or milk in small increments until you get the desired consistency.
  • You can tint this frosting with gel food colors. It's ready to use on your butterfly!
