Preheat oven to 350°.
In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugars.
1 cup butter or margarine, 1 ½ cups granulated sugar, 1 ½ cups brown sugar
Add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
4 eggs, 4 tsp vanilla extract
Add flour, salt, and cocoa powder. Mix well.
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 6 tbsp cocoa powder, ½ tsp salt
Add food coloring until you get the color you want. Remember that the color will become a little more dull during baking.
1-2 oz red gel food coloring
Grease a 9x13 or line with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the pan and smooth it with a spatula.
Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until knife inserted into center comes out clean.
Allow brownies to cool, then cut and serve!
