Homemade Vanilla Buttercream

Easy American buttercream made with real vanilla and butter!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup shortening
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 Tbsp milk or water
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  • Cream shortening, butter, salt, and vanilla.
    1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp salt
  • With mixer on low, add powdered sugar in small amounts and mix until completely combined.
    4 cups powdered sugar
  • Add water or milk in 1/2 Tbsp amounts until the desired consistency is reached.
    2 Tbsp milk or water

Notes

This recipe will frost 12 cupcakes or 1 8" cake.
