Halloween Monster Munch Easy Popcorn Snack Mix

If you’re looking for an easy, delicious snack for Halloween parties, movie nights, or just to celebrate the season, this Halloween monster popcorn snack mix is a hit with the whole family!

Marshmallow Halloween Popcorn Snack Mix

Making popcorn mix is so easy, and it’s such a delicious snack! In this recipe, we use a marshmallow popcorn base (kinda like a popcorn Rice Krispie treat) and add colored candy drizzle, then finish off with some classic Halloween candy and some spooky candy eyeballs. It’s a feast for the eyes and a fun addition to your Halloween parties, bake sales, and more!

Ingredients

You can make this fun treat with just a few simple ingredients!

Popcorn snack mix ingredients
  • Popcorn: You can use any kind of popcorn for this recipe — you’ll need about 6 cups of popcorn. I used lightly buttered microwave popcorn but air-popped works well too!
  • Butter/Margarine: You can use either butter or margarine for this recipe. Butter is obviously more buttery in flavor, but the consistency is basically the same between the two.
  • Mini Marshmallows: You can also use regular marshmallows here as well. Minis just melt faster.
  • Candy Melts: I used orange and purple candy melts for this recipe, but you can use any Halloween color you’d like. You can also use almond bark and food dye to get the same effect.
  • M&Ms: I used the Ghoul’s mix, which includes purple, orange, and green M&Ms. You can sub this with regular M&Ms or even Reese’s pieces.
  • Candy Corn: This is so quintessentially Halloween! You can sub a wide variety of Halloween candy here, including candy pumpkins, ghost Dots, or Brach’s autumn leaves.
  • Sprinkles: Pick your favorite fun Halloween sprinkles and go to town! Mine had witches’ hats and candy eyes.

Instructions

Step 1 | Pop the Popcorn

Start by spraying a large bowl with cooking spray. This will keep the marshmallow mix from sticking when you add it.

Then, pop your popcorn and put it in the bowl. Be sure to remove all unpopped popcorn kernels. There’s nothing worse than expecting a fun snack and breaking your tooth!

Step 2 | Melt the Marshmallows

Next, in a medium saucepan, melt your butter. Add the marshmallows, and stir them until they melt completely. Do not stop stirring — they will scorch!

Step 3 | Mix it Up!

Pour the melted marshmallow over your popcorn and use a wooden spoon to mix everything together. Make sure that every piece of popcorn is covered with marshmallow.

Step 4 | Drizzle and Decorate

Now, you can keep your popcorn in the bowl, or line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper and spread your popcorn out on it.

In a microwave safe bowl, melt your candy melts according to the package instructions. Use a spoon to drizzle your popcorn with candy melts.

Finally, add the M&Ms, candy corn, and sprinkles. Spread them around, and don’t be afraid to use a heavy hand!

Step 5 | Enjoy!

Your monster munch will be a bit messy, but you can each it right away. For a party, I would recommend letting the candy melts dry, about 30 minutes, then breaking the Halloween popcorn snack mix up and putting it in bowls or treat bags to serve. Either way, you’ve got a big batch of deliciousness!

Variations

This base recipe is so simple you can customize it to make your perfect snack mix!

  • Change the popcorn: While this recipe uses regular popcorn, you can exchange that for kettle corn or caramel corn. In that case, you don’t have to worry about the marshmallow step since your popcorn is already sweet!
  • Change the mix-ins: If you’d prefer a sweet and salty snack mix, add pretzel sticks or pumpkin seeds. You could also add crushed Oreo cookies, gummy worms,
  • Change the drizzle:Melted chocolate or even smooth peanut butter would make a fantastic sub for the candy melts. You can also use white chocolate chips, if you’d like a true white chocolate flavor.
