Raise your hand if your kid is obsessed with fruit snacks… Oh, so like every toddler and preschool mom ever. We are no different here, and I honestly believe my kids would just live on fruit snacks and homemade gummies if I let them.

I don’t, because I’m a good mom, but when we ran out of the coveted treats last week, I did try to MacGyver something together to fill the void. When I was little, my mom and brother and I used to make Jello Jigglers. Jigglers are much softer than homemade gummies, but I decided to use the jiggler base and increase the gelatin to try to make my treats set up harder.

After a little experimentation with Jello to water to gelatin ratios, I think these guys work pretty well. The flavor is strong, the color is bright (so important, at least for my little ones), and they have a good gummy texture. These are also shelf-stable, so you could double or triple or quadruple this recipe for snacks for the week. If you do store them, make sure to put them in an airtight container!

This recipe makes about a dozen square gummies. I like to make multiple versions of it in different flavors to sort of mimic fruit snack packets. It only takes a few minutes per flavor, and the kids get a kick out of it!

I put mine in a bread pan lined with parchment paper to set up. Once they were fully set up, I cut them into squares. If you own a nice mold, that would also be a great place to set these up, with the added bonus of having fun shapes for your homemade gummies 🙂
