It&#8217;s topped with another pie crust, or, in the case of Dutch apple pie, with a buttery streusel. Alternately, you could thinly slice your apples. I find the crisp easier to eat with chopped apples, but it&#8217;s all down to your preference!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, place your apples in either a standard pie pan or an 8&#215;8 square baking pan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2 | Make Topping<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a medium bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, and spices. Then, use either a fork or a pastry cutter to cut the butter in to your until you have a crumb mixture. You can see what it looks like in the pictures above.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3 | Put it All Together<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Spread your crumb topping over the apples. Here are a few of my favorites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apple Pear Crisp<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Replace one of the apples with a pear to add an extra dimension of sweetness and flavor!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cardamom Apple Crisp<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Replace the cinnamon and nutmeg with 1\/2 teaspoon cardamom and 1\/4 teaspoon ginger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Caramel Apple Crisp<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Drizzle caramel sauce (either store bought or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sallysbakingaddiction.com\/homemade-salted-caramel-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">homemade<\/a>) over the baked crisp. It does not need to be refrigerated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freezing: Apple crisp does not freeze well. The apples brown and the topping gets soggy during thawing.
