This is my first year having a kid who’s aware of Christmas and I could not be more excited! One of my favorite memories growing up is of decorating the Christmas tree with all of the ornaments my brothers and I made through the years. I don’t believe in those perfect trees you get from ornament sets from the store. I love trees that have memories hanging on every branch.

Which brings me to this post. Right now I have an ornament set from Walmart hanging on the tree just so it won’t be bare. The ideas below are ones I have done or am planning to do with my little guy so that next year, we can start hanging memories.

The possibilities are endless with salt dough! Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes, press little hands, feet, and thumbs in, paint them in fun colors – the sky’s the limit!

Just like salt dough ornaments, but now you add a gorgeous cinnamon scent into the mix. Definitely my favorite on the list!

This would be so easy even for little fingers!

I loved this cute idea. You get an adorable decoration, and a keepsake for years to come.

These snowmen are adorable and can help you remember how small your little one’s hands were!

This is a classic. There’s tons of these hanging on my parents’ tree back in Alaska. They’re super simple and super cute!

Another classic. You can decorate your reindeer too – add bows, holly leaves or whatever strikes your fancy!

These are way easy and adorable. It would be fun to mix up the colors!

Another popsicle stick ornaments. I loved these because they look so versatile. You could use almost anything to decorate!

Okay, the designs here look a little ambitious (for me, I’m not even talking about the kids!), but the inspiration is great. I might try to paint a snowman or a North Pole barber pole.

These are beautiful! I love them with clear beads on white glittery pipe cleaners.

These look like something a toddler could do and it would still look good. You know you’ve got hold of a good thing when that’s the case!

Why stop at buttons? You could use dried pasta, beads, or anything that would fit!

Make a cute ornament and help your child practice their fine motor skills at the same time.

These are adorable, and they look impossible to mess up.
