No Sew Christmas Soda Bottle Covers

I think this is the last of the “things we used to make and sell at craft fairs” series. For a few years back when I was twelve or so, my family used to spend the two months before Christmas making tons of simple gift-type crafts and then we’d sell them at the local craft fair. My brothers and I got to split the profit – which was plenty of motivation to get those glue guns cracking!

Soda Bottle Santas were one of our biggest sellers, and you can see the classic design there in the center. I decided to get a little more creative this year and give Santa some friends, specifically a reindeer and a Christmas tree.

Now, knowing that my younger brothers and I could pull these off when we were 8-12-ish, you know this is an easy project. I’ve provided the templates, so all you have to do is cut, glue and slip your cover over a 2-liter bottle.

These make great gifts, either on their own or as part of a “movie night” package. This year, we gave these guys away with a bag of popcorn and a code for a Redbox rental. The response has been super positive!

And without further ado, here’s the materials and instructions for each of the designs:

Santa

Templates

Print off and cut out all templates. The base bottom and top are designed to be taped together and cut as one (I couldn’t fit them all on one paper!).

red, white, pink, and green felt

small pink pompom

large white pompom

3 small red pompoms

medium wiggle eyes

scissors/pinking sheet

glue gun

Instructions

Start by cutting out two base pieces in red, then hot glueing them together. You can use regular scissors, but I think these look really cute when the base is cut with pinking shears.

The next step is to cut the face out of pink felt and glue it on about 1/3 of the way from the top.

The beard and hat bottom are next, followed by the moustache and eye brows.

Add a pink pompom for a nose and the wiggle eyes to finish off the face. On one side, group the holly leaves and top with three red pompoms. To finish, I like to fold the top of the hat over and glue it with a pompom on top, but you can leave it sticking straight up if you like.

Now you can just slip him over a 2-liter and you’re done!

red, white, light brown and brown felt

large wiggle eyes

large white pompom

Instructions

Cut two top pieces from red, then two bottom pieces from the darker brown color. You’re going to glue these together.

Once you’ve glued the tops to the bottoms, cut out two antler pieces from the lighter brown felt. You’re going to glue the side and bottom of these to one of the bases before glueing the two bases together.

Once you’ve gotten the two sides glued, glue the face to the front.

Now add the hat brim over the seam between red and brown. Add the wiggle eyes and red pompom to make the face. Finish it off with a white pompom. Like with the Santa, I like to fold the hat down to one side, but you can leave it sticking straight up.
