I’m going to let you in on a secret. Marbled peanut butter brownies are the easiest way to fool everyone into thinking you’re an awesome chef. Truth be told, the beautiful, professional looking chocolate peanut butter marble on the top takes about 10 minutes from start to finish and is super easy to do. The brownie base is almost impossible to mess up. The end result – fudgy, decadent brownies topped with melt-in-your-mouth peanut butter and chocolate – doesn’t look simple. But everyone else doesn’t have to know that. It’s our little secret 🙂

Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 10 tbsp cocoa
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 ¼ cups flour
  • dash of salt

Chocolate Marble

  • 8 ounces semisweet bakers chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 1 Tbsp shortening

Peanut Butter Marble

  • ¼ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ Tbsp shortening

Instructions

Brownie Base

  • In a saucepan, melt butter. Stir in sugar and cocoa.
  • Pour butter mixture in mixing bowl. Add eggs, flour and salt and mix until batter is smooth.
  • Pour into greased 13x9 baking pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Marbling

  • In a microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate and shortening together. Microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat until chocolate is melted and smooth.
  • In another microwave safe bowl, melt peanut butter and shortening together using same method as for chocolate.
  • Pour melted chocolate over brownies and smooth out.
  • Pour melted peanut butter in lines over brownies. Use a clean knife to draw lines across the peanut butter and chocolate to achieve the marbling effect.
  • Allow marbling to set completely before serving.

Notes

Note:
You can speed up how long it take the marbling to set by placing the brownies in the fridge.
This technique can also be done with white chocolate or caramel instead of peanut butter. Just use the same melting method as for the chocolate.

Instructions

This brownie base whips together pretty fast. Start by melting the butter in a saucepan. Stir frequently, because it will burn if you don’t keep it moving. Once the butter’s melted, mix in the sugar and cocoa.

Dump the contents of the saucepan into a mixing bowl and add the remaining ingredients (eggs, flour, salt). Mix everything around until you have a super smooth batter, then pour that into a greased pan and bake at 350deg; for 20-25 minutes. At 20 minutes they’re usually a little gooey. At 25 minutes, they’re usually completely done. Your choice. If you want to see process pictures for the brownies, check out Pauline’s Brownies.

Your finished base should look like this:

Now we get to do the fun part. Start by melting the chocolate and shortening together. The best way to do this without burning the chocolate is to microwave everything for 30 seconds, then pull it out and stir. If you still have lumps, microwave again and just repeat that until the chocolate is smooth. Then, pour it over the brownies.

Once the chocolate is done, we get to do the peanut butter. Melt the peanut butter and shortening together by microwaving for 30 seconds and stirring until smooth. Then pour the peanut butter mixture in strips on the brownies. I didn’t get pictures of this step, so you’ll have to imagine fierce peanut butter tiger stripes!

To get the marbled look, use a knife to pull across the peanut butter. If you need a visual, here’s a video to show you how:

The hardest part is waiting for the marbling to set. It takes several hours at room temperature, but you can speed it up by putting the brownies in the fridge. Once you’ve got them in the fridge, it only takes 30 min to an hour. Once the marbling is set, you can cut and serve your professionally decorated and phenomenally delicious brownies!
